SatCon Applied Technology DivisionSatCon Applied Technology located in Boston, MA and Baltimore, MD forms the foundation of the company’s commitment to technical excellence and innovation. We develop advanced technology in power conversion electronics; power management & distribution systems; hybrid electric vehicle technology; electric machinery; and advanced electronic material applications, with the strategy of transitioning those technologies into products. We have a proven track record of over 150 SBIR awards from DoD, DoE and NASA – and over 150 patents, a testament to our commitment to innovative excellence.


With a highly educated and experienced staff (over 25% with PhD’s), Applied Technology employs engineers, scientists and technicians, representing a variety of disciplines including: power electronics, controls, magnetics, machine design, rotor dynamics, digital and analog electronics, packaging, thermal management, and system integration.

Our staff is committed to the design and development of innovative critical power solutions and transitioning them into cost effective, viable products for SatCon’s manufacturing divisions, strategic partners, and customers. Through successful integration of diverse talents, Applied Technology offers dedicated multidisciplinary teams, focused in providing effective solutions to the most challenging problems with fast turnaround times.

Our designs are finding application in a number of government and commercial markets. Our customers include: DoD (DARPA, Navy, Army, USAF), DoE, NASA, NIST; Defense Contractors and Commercial customers have included: General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, General Atomics, United Technologies, Chrysler, General Motors, Ford, Azure Dynamics, Delco-Remy America, Fuel Cell Energy, TRW, York and Applied Materials, among others.

Applied Technology facilities in Boston and Baltimore, include well-equipped electronics laboratories, full suites of EDA and CAD software, and a fully equipped machine shop as well as prototype assembly and test areas. Applied Technology meets all Federal, State and local government environmental regulations for airborne emissions, waterborne effluents, external radiation levels, outdoor noise, solid and bulk waste disposal and the handling and storage of toxic and hazardous materials.
